"I Want My Seagull Friend!"

Ila had a very unusal meltdown on the beach the other day. She's become obsessed with seagulls. So obsessed that she thinks they are hers and cannot understand why they run or fly away from her when she chases them down the beach. After chasing one a good 100 yards down the beach shouting "I want my seagull friend!"- it escalated to a full-blown meltdown and we had to go home because of it. The next day we brought some animal crackers to the beach and I became one of those typical seagull feeding tourists so Ila could think for a second that her seagull friends liked her. Now that is true love.

We're Here! (And Sleep Deprived)

Hope everyone is having a good start to their summer! Not much time for posting these days, but we are here getting settled in Hatteras. Honestly, I'm exhausted trying to get Ila to sleep at night in her own bed though. She's now taking good naps during the day (probably because she's awake at least 2-3 hours at night), but night time continues to be a struggle. We dropped the side of her crib down and put a step next to it so it's somewhat like her "big girl bed" at home, but that girl still doesn't get that she needs to sleep in there! We haven't given in to letting her in our bed because that means WE won't sleep, but it sure is tempting at 2 a.m. when she's screaming "i'm awake!" Anyway, she is doing great during the day and is loving the beach and the pool and playing in the sand under the house. She will be even more excited when our staff arrive tomorrow, then campers start coming the week after that. Please pray for sleep in this house!
